Well, that was fun
January 31, 2008
I’m referring to my previous post about ICANN releasing the .blog TLD.
Now, it was a shameless hoax, and I make no apology for that. I mean, I even tagged it as a hoax (*edit* - since become aware that this theme doesn’t print the tags at the bottom of the post. I thought it did - d’oh). So there is no reason to be angry at me for just making something up.
But the point of it was it was (another) experiment into grabbing peoples attention and drawing readers. It was also my most successful venture (or adventure, I’m not sure which) yet. Yesterday, after posting, I had the highest number of readers in any day since this blog started. I also had the best quality of blog responses. I don’t really know how many blogs posted about it, but there was one blog that actually took my article and fashioned it into a bigger news piece filled with speculation over the “news”.
While this sort of fun is probably not the best way to market a blog (unless you are trying to write a spoof/hoax blog or something like that), it certainly was a lot of fun to write, and fun to see the different types of responses, from blog posts, to comments, to diggs. Yes, I know that my own post only got two diggs and I did one of them, but its worth a try, right?
So, after all that fun, I think I will have to do something good for April 1st this year, I mean that post included that date, but I’m - what - 3 months early!! I like the idea of the controversial post and I want to keep experimenting with it. It wasn’t the incredible type of linkbait that you may have seen on Shoemoney.com, but I think it was a pretty good first effort for a blog that has very low exposure and readship at the moment.
