ICANN releases .BLOG top level domain!
January 30, 2008
In a recent announcement, ICANN has stated that due to the massive increase in the percentage of internet traffic related to weblogs (blogs), it will be releasing a new gTLD (generic Top Level Domain) for blogs.
The new gTLD will be “.blog” and will become available from April 1st, 2008. It has also been stated that any existing registrar will be able to begin registering the new domains from this time.
This has caused great excitement in the blogging community, especially because the domain has been released to all registrars, which will encourage cheaper pricing on the domains.
Bloggers are encouraged to investigate their domains early, as cybersquatting could be prevalent with this new and desirable gTLD. It is expected that some registrars will attempt to pre-sell options on these domains, or that famous domains may attract a higher fee than new domains.
.blog will become the 8th four-character gTLD to be released to date.

I searched the ICANN site and cannot find any reference of the .blog announcement.

If you liked this hoax or would like to spread it, please feel free to Digg it.
Especially seeing as this is the origin of the hoax, rather than anyone elses blog.
